The good pub guide review
This sizeable inn has cleverly created numerous little snugs and alcoves among its interlinked rooms, adding to its character and appeal. There are all manner of antique dining chairs and tables on rugs or stripped floorboards, comfortable armchairs or tub seats, cushioned pews, wall seats and two open fires in raised fireplaces; decoration includes cricketing memorabilia, fresh flowers, large plants and church candles. St Austell Brunning & Price Traditional Bitter plus guests from local breweries such as Chiltern, Malt, Paradigm (brewed in the village) and Tring on handpump, good wines by the glass, over 40 gins and 50 malt whiskies; background music and board games. Several sets of french windows open on to the back terrace where there are tables and chairs, with picnic-sets on grass next to a colourfully painted tractor. This is a pleasant village setting overlooking the green and duck pond.

Interesting modern food includes sandwiches, smoked salmon with orange and beetroot salad, crispy baby squid and sweet chilli sauce, sweet potato, cauliflower, almond and chickpea tagine with couscous and tempura broccoli, chicken, ham and leek pie, Sicilian fish stew, pea and mint tortellini, and puddings such as summer pudding with clotted cream and sticky toffee pudding with toffee sauce.
