Cosy, warm-hearted town tavern with well liked food and Wadworths ales
The good pub guide review
A cheerful, bustling place whose small linked areas have some timbering, tartan banquettes, wheelback and farmhouse chairs around pubby tables on parquet flooring or carpet, some William Morris-style wallpaper, horsebrasses and a high shelf of stone bottles. A woodburning stove keeps everyone toasty on cold days, and when the sun shines in the summer the flower displays out front and on the back terrace are a joy to behold over the rim of a pint glass. Friendly staff keep Wadworths 6X, IPA and Swordfish on handpump, and a farm cider. Darts, a silenced games machine and juke box; the Barn houses a pool table. Dog walkers are welcomed warmly ' even dogs damp from a walk are offered a biscuit or two.
The good pub guide food review
Excellent value food is served until 3pm. As well as popular all-day breakfasts, there are sandwiches, baguettes and jacket potatoes, satisfying Sunday roasts and reliable pubby lunch dishes such as burgers, scampi, beer-battered fish - all served with chips ' and some daily specials, with ice-cream or cheese for afters.
