The good pub guide review

In a pretty little village near the mouth of the River Severn, this inn offers a fine choice of good value food and drinks, served by hard-working, attentive staff. There might be Bass, Butcombe Original and St Austell Tribute on handpump, 11 wines by the glass, Tutts Clump Berkshire Diamond and two other farm ciders, 30 gins and 60 malt whiskies with helpful tasting notes. A neat lounge has black beams and stonework, cushioned window seats and a range of other wooden chairs, gate-leg tables, oil paintings of local scenes and a big log fire. The Village Bar has old and farming photographs on the walls, and there's a contemporary dining room towards the back of the building. In summer, the attractive garden is a real bonus with pretty hanging baskets and window boxes, and seats beneath parasols or trees; pétanque. You can walk to the River Severn (via the long-distance Severn Way) and there are numerous footpaths and bridleways to explore. Wheelchair access to the dining room and a disabled lavatory.

The good pub guide food review

Enjoyable food includes ciabattas, king prawns in tempura batter, grilled halloumi and pesto with marinated artichokes and rocket, sharing platters, chargrilled lamb cutlets with greek salad, burger and fries, ham and free-range eggs, blue cheese and wild mushroom ravioli, chicken breast with mushroom and brandy sauce with dauphinoise potatoes, kashmiri lamb curry, flat-iron steak with fries, and puddings such as chocolate brownie with chocolate sauce and sticky toffee pudding.
