The good pub guide review

The grey-painted clapboard exterior of these converted stables conjures a simple but stylish modern feel that continues indoors, with brick walls, polished floorboards and exposed rafters. Although the carefully extended building was designed to be mainly open-plan, there are areas that feel cosy too. One room has a high apex ceiling, a woodburning stove fronted by sturdy red leather armchairs and lined on either side by large bookshelves. Other rooms have open fires, beams and timbering, antique-style dining chairs and cushioned settles around polished tables of many sizes and rugs on the floor. The walls are hung with hundreds of prints, paintings and photographs and throughout there are mirrors, house plants and elegant metal chandeliers. The Morris Dancer is a true village-centre pub and the heart of the local community; check the website for regular events. Friendly, efficient staff serve Phoenix Brunning & Price Original and Weetwood Eastgate plus guests such as Castle Rock Session IPA, Hawkshead Windermere Pale, Mobberley Road Runner, Severn Brewing Ruby Porter and Tatton Blonde on handpump, 20 wines by the glass plus monthly guest bottles, 20 malt whiskies and 150 gins; background music and board games. In front of the pub are picnic-sets among pretty flowerbeds with more on a back lawn by a play tractor. The sunny terrace has plenty of wooden chairs and tables under green parasols.
