Get beyond the unassuming exterior and you enter a unique space that looks for all the world like a museum, filled with fascinating curiosities and antiques. The most impressive pieces are the working polyphons and symphonions which are 19th-c developments of the musical box, some taller than a person, each with quite a repertoire of tunes and elaborate sound effects. There are also two pairs of Queen Victoria's stockings, an amazing collection of ceramics and pottery including a Grecian urn dating back almost 3,000 years, penny-farthing and boneshaker bicycles and the infamous Acme Dog Carrier. Seats include 18th-c settles, plenty of little wooden tables and a four-person oak church choir seat with carved heads that came from St Mary's church in Stafford. Look out for the array of musical instruments ranging from a one-string violin (phonofiddle) through pianos and a sousaphone to the aptly named serpent. Look out too for Colin the resident tortoise, who likes to get out and about most days. Drinks are very reasonably priced, so it's no wonder the place is popular with locals. Burton Bridge Bitter, Rudgate Ruby Mild and a guest from Dancing Duck on handpump, six interesting malt whiskies, ten wines by the glass, ten gins and six farm ciders. Darts and table skittles. There are seats outside the front door and in the cobbled stableyard, and they also have a collection of vintage motorcyles and memorabilia. Electric hook-ups for motorhomes. Disabled access. The 'Yew Tree Inn (Side Out)' is a new addition for 2020, aiming to bring the remarkable decor and ambience of the pub into a large marquee with its own outside bar and solid floor, where they serve coffee and cakes along with the wide range of beers offered inside the pub.
