The good pub guide review

This is a lovely spot overlooking the River Severn, with a fantastic outdoor terrace right next to the water that makes the most of the charming view ' do arrive early on a sunny day if you want to sit at one of the parasol-shaded tables. The pretty little footbridge adjacent leads across the water to the Quarry Park and the centre of Shrewsbury, where you'll also find highly rated sister establishment the Lion & Pheasant. The attractive interior has beams and timbering, pastel blue panelling, wooden chairs and cushioned settles around painted tables on bare boards, a woodburning stove and high chairs against the counter where cheerful staff serve five real ales on handpump, usually Salopian Oracle (the brewery is in town) and Wye Valley HPA plus guests from the likes of Hobsons and Three Tuns, eight wines by the glass, cocktails and an impressive gin selection. Note, no dogs allowed inside. The separate Boatshed can be hired for private parties. The town holds lots of events, many of them based around the water, including the summer River Festival with pirates and coracle races.
