The good pub guide review

Known locally as Buratta's (after the friendly couple who run the place), this much loved pub is usually full of chatty customers having a fine old time. The carpeted bars are open-plan but carefully laid out so that each area is fairly snug but still feels part of the action. A good variety of furniture runs from dark oak tables to big chunky pine ones with mixed seating to match; the two sofas facing each other are popular. Contrasting with the old exposed ceiling joists, mostly unframed modern paintings and prints decorate the walls, which are painted in grey and white. Binghams (the brewery is just across the road) Twyford Tipple, Fullers London Pride and a guest from Loddon on handpump, 16 wines by the glass (they stock wines from the village's Stanlake Park vineyard), 14 malt whiskies, six gins and attentive service. Picnic-sets are arranged around a venerable central hawthorn in the garden behind (where there are ducks and chickens); summer barbecues. The pub is on the annual Henley Arts Trail. Do visit the landlady's antiques and collectables shop, which is open during pub hours.

The good pub guide food review

Enjoyable food from a regularly updated menu includes sandwiches and paninis, Thai-style fishcakes with sweet chilli sauce, chicken liver and pancetta parfait, ploughman's, a pie of the day, ham, egg and chips, falafel and spinach burger with sautéed potatoes, chilli con carne, mushroom ravioli with marinara sauce, crispy-skin salmon with crushed new potatoes and confit fennel, and puddings.
