The good pub guide review
Next to the village green, with a garden that overlooks the salt marshes and the North Sea beyond, this Dutch-gabled 18th-c pub has an enviable location. It's popular with both locals and visitors, and many customers return on a regular basis. The flint-walled bar consists of a pair of high-raftered rooms opened up into one area, with stone tiles around the counter where regulars congregate, and a carpeted seating area with a fireplace at each end. Also, scrubbed tables, one very high-backed settle, country kitchen chairs and elegant little red-padded dining chairs, with big sailing ship and other prints. Adnams Ghost Ship, Norfolk Brewhouse Moon Gazer Golden Ale and Amber Ale and Woodfordes Wherry on handpump, 19 wines by the glass and 14 malt whiskies. Picnic-sets on the front grass look out towards the sea and there are more seats in the sheltered back courtyard and the orchard garden beyond.
The good pub guide food review
With quite an emphasis on fresh fish, the very good food includes sandwiches (until 5pm), crispy fried crab and cod bonbons, grilled local shellfish with garlic butter, fennel and olive salad and fries, panko-fried tuna loin with marinated cucumber, wasabi and ginger, smoked fish platters, battered fish and chips, local rib-eye with beans and fries, harissa roasted cauliflower with fattoush salad, linguine with local crab, chilli, mint and lime, and puddings such as chocolate brownie with vanilla ice-cream and chilled peach soup with raspberries and raspberry sorbet.
