The good pub guide review

The eight comfortable, individually furnished bedrooms in this charming country inn make a perfect base for exploring the area ' it's on the edge of the New Forest, so there are plenty of nearby walks. The little panelled bar on the right is snug with a feature stove surrounded by logs, leather and Victorian-style chairs on parquet flooring, stools against the counter and courteous staff who serve Ringwood and other local ales on handpump, craft beers and 16 good wines by the glass. The dining rooms are gracious with well spaced tables on pale carpets and some interesting modern art on the walls and in glass cabinets. The gardens are really lovely, featuring an extensive series of interestingly planted areas looping about pools and a placid winding stream, and dotted with art objects. You'll find plenty of places to sit, from intimate pairs of chairs to teak or wrought-iron tables on the main waterside terrace (which is beautifully lit at night) and on grass.

The good pub guide food review

As well as breakast for non-residents, the appealing food includes sandwiches, fried buffalo chicken wings, baked camembert (to share), mushroom sharwama with pickles, stone-baked pizzas, burgers, a range of steaks with a choice of sauce and side dish (including a vegan version with spicy cauliflower, salsa and siracha mayo), half roast chicken with fries, a pie or fish of the day, and puddings such as sticky toffee pudding and dark chocolate brownie with chocolate sauce and vanilla ice-cream.
