The good pub guide review

This is a charming pub known for its fantastic riverside location. Plenty of chatty customers create a buoyant atmosphere in the flagstoned bar, where you'll find Sharps Doom Bar, Wye Valley Butty Bach and HPA and guests such as Kingstone Llandogo Trow, Ledbury Gold and Swan Gold on handpump, 13 wines by the glass, 40 vodkas, 20 malt whiskies and several ciders; TV, background music and board games. A cosy lounge and a modernised bare-boards dining room have fine old photos of the area and fresh flowers in jugs. There are lots of seats on terraces beside the River Wye ' best to get here early in warm weather to bag one. The nearby Forest of Dean offers plenty of walks. One way to reach the inn is via the little hand-ferry (pulled by one of the staff). Most of the nine rooms have river views and breakfasts are good. Disabled access to the bar and terrace.

The good pub guide food review

Well regarded food includes sandwiches and baguettes, charcuterie sharing board, superfood salad, Jamaican jerk beef short ribs with Jack Daniels barbecue sauce, sweet potato fries and sweetcorn fritters, steak (sirloin or rib-eye) with chips and a choice of sauce, roasted venison loin with braised red cabbage, charred broccoli and dauphinoise potatoes, beetroot falafel with butternut squash, halloumi and pomegranate dressing, and puddings such as eton mess and lemon posset with raspberry coulis.
