The good pub guide review

This thoughtfully restored Georgian pub just off Marylebone High Street is spread over several floors, but it's the bustling ground-floor bar that is the heart of the place. This has button-back banquette wall seats, high chairs around equally high tables, striking ceiling lights and friendly staff who serve Hammerton N1 and Sharps Doom Bar on handpump, several craft beers, over 30 wines by the glass and 20 malt whiskies; background music and TV. The alluring cocktail bar in the basement has beams and panelled walls, rich red or green plush seats and wall banquettes by simple tables, some modern art and drinks that include a seasonally changing cocktail menu. Head upstairs to the first floor to find the bright and airy dining room, with leather or elegant wooden chairs around assorted tables on dark floorboards, oil portraits and old photographs on the walls and stained-glass windows overlooking the Marylebone streets below ' and a restful atmosphere. Disabled access to the bar but not to the loos.

The good pub guide food review

Beautifully presented and highly regarded food includes cured trout with Pimm's, gooseberries and horseradish, beef tartare with watercress mayonnaise and smoked egg yolk, pan-fried hake with clams, samphire and borlotti beans, beef rib-eye with chunky chips and céarnaise sauce, charred celeriac steak with blue cheese mouse, beer-battered haddock and chips, and puddings such as buttermilk and vanilla pannacotta with strawberry compote, pistachio and almond crumble and dark chocolate brownie with hot fudge sauce and malt ice-cream; they also offer two- and three-course set menus.
