At least ten real ales and lots of ciders and perries in bustling narrow pub
The good pub guide review
Just off the eastern side of Trafalgar Square, this busy little local is a gem ' and a favourite with many. The main draw, of course, is the choice of at least ten particularly well kept real ales on handpump: these change quickly but always include Harveys Best, Dark Star American Pale Ale and Hophead and Fullers London Pride, with guests sourced from all over the country. Also, around six farm ciders, a perry and quite a few malt whiskies. The pub pretty much consists of one long narrow, very traditional bar, with lots of high bar stools along the wall counter and around elbow tables, big mirrors on the red walls, some lovely stained glass and loads of interesting, quirkily executed celebrity portraits. If you're lucky, you may be able to snare one of the prized seats by the front windows. A little room upstairs is much quieter, with comfortable furniture and a window overlooking the road below. At any time of day, the pub is always packed; at peak times, customers are happy to spill out on to the pavement or the back alley. The hanging baskets are a delight in summer.
