The good pub guide review

With sweeping views from inside and out of the broad, tidal River Deben with its bobbing boats, this family-friendly pub is the perfect place to while away an afternoon. The welcoming interior and thoughtful provision of food (served all day) and drink (including good coffee) make it particularly enjoyable. The spacious knocked-through bar is divided into separate areas by fireplaces or steps; there's also a light, high-ceilinged extension. The comfortable, well kept interior has a maritime theme, with nicely displayed nautical antiques including an elaborate ship's model in a glass case, and attractive wallpaper featuring ships' charts and knot-tying diagrams. Adnams Ghost Ship and Southwold and a guest beer on handpump and a fair choice of wines by the glass; board games. The numerous picnic-sets on a terrace behind the pub overlook the water but do get snapped up quickly in warm weather. Disabled access. River cruises are available nearby, though you have to pre-book. There is a large pay-and-display car park (charges are refunded to pub customers).

The good pub guide food review
