Old Thatched Inn
Well run dining pub with keen landlord, friendly staff, five real ales and good food
The good pub guide review
Set in an attractive village surrounded by rolling farmland, this is a pretty thatched place with consistently high standards. Our readers enjoy it very much. The small front bar area has low beams, sofas on flagstones, high bar chairs and an open fire. A dining area leads off with more beams and a mix of pale wooden dining chairs around miscellaneous tables on a stripped wooden floor; background music. Fullers London Pride, Hook Norton Hooky, Sharps Doom Bar and two guests on handpump served by the enthusiastic landlord, plus 16 wines by the glass and a large selection of malt whiskies and gins. A modern conservatory restaurant at the back has well spaced tables on bare boards, and the sheltered terrace has plenty of tables and chairs under a gazebo. Disabled access.
The good pub guide food review
Interesting, up-to-date food (catering for gluten-free, vegan and other diets) includes Colston Bassett stilton salad with walnuts and pear, prawn cocktail, baked aubergine with tomato provençale and mozzarella, pan-roasted Cornish hake with fennel, capers and peas, wild mushroom pappardelle with mushroom sauce, confit leg of duck with oriental noodles, pak choi, spring roll and hoisin sauce, and puddings such as white chocolate pannacotta and sticky date pudding with toffee sauce; there's a set lunch on weekdays.
