The good pub guide review
A very attractive and popular inn in a charming seaside village, the Golden Lion offers a warm welcome in its genuinely pubby bar, where you'll find Sharps Doom Bar and a couple of guest ales from the nearby Bluestone Brewery on handpump, several malt whiskies, wines by the glass, 30 gins including Welsh gins and three ciders. There's also a cosy series of beamed rooms with distinctive old settles and a dining room with elegant blond oak furniture, whitewashed walls and potted plants. There's a TV, pool table, juke box, darts, games machine and board games, as well as background and regular live music. Staff are helpful. You can sit outside at the front or in a side garden. This coastal village makes a good base for exploring northern Pembrokeshire and the inn's 13 bedrooms are modern, comfortable and fair value (dogs can stay in the ground-floor ones). Good disabled access and facilities.
The good pub guide food review
A fine choice of good food showcases local highlights of the culinary scene such as Preseli lamb (from the nearby Preseli Hills) and lobster from the local harbour. Dishes include sandwiches, smoked haddock and leek tart with crispy poached egg, sweet potato gnocchi with tomato and basil sauce, pork belly scotch egg with piccalilli gel, roasted barbecue half chicken with sweetcorn salsa and smoked bacon mac 'n' cheese, Thai green vegetable or chicken curry, 8oz Welsh rib-eye steak with fries, broad bean and spinach burger with chargrilled vegetables, harissa mayo and fries, and puddings such as lemon tart with berry compote and chantilly cream.
