The good pub guide review

There's a warm welcome for all from the friendly family (including Martha the dachshund) running this attractive 18th-c pub. The right-hand bar area has a log fire in a brick inglenook with a leather sofa and a couple of armchairs in front ' just the place for a quiet pint and a chat ' plus high bar stools by the counter where they serve Cellar Head Single Hop Pale, Dark Star Hophead and Harveys Best on handpump, good wines by the glass and a farm cider. The dining area is opposite with elegant high-backed tartan or leather chairs around a mix of tables (each with fresh flowers and a tea-light) on stripped floorboards and more tea-lights in a small fireplace; background music. The back terrace has plenty of seats and tables. The four bedrooms are comfortable and the breakfasts well regarded. The pub is in the centre of this bustling village.

The good pub guide food review

Food is good and includes lunchtime sandwiches, ciabattas and Turkish-style flatbreads, a 'fishy board', salad bowl with prawns or roasted Mediterranean vegetables, home-made lamb kofta and grilled lamb rump with fruity couscous, home-cooked ham and eggs, burger (beef, chicken or halloumi) with chips, daily specials, and puddings such as chocolate brownie with chocolate sauce and vanilla ice-cream and lemon cheesecake with blueberry sauce.
