The good pub guide review
A wonderful array of up to ten real ales are kept on handpump at this unspoilt whitewashed old pub ' one or two named for the pub, plus Adnams Ghost Ship, Belvoir Rare Breed, Butcombe Bitter, Fullers London Pride, Ringwood Boondoggle and Fortyniner and quickly changing guests; lots of country wines, a dozen wines by the glass, 20 malt whiskies and two farm ciders. They hold a beer festival in June and a cider festival in September. The bars and dining room remain charming and idiosyncratic: open fires, oak settles and a mix of dark wooden dining chairs, nice old tables, sofas and armchairs, various pictures, farm tools, horsebrasses, a couple of fireside rocking chairs and so forth. There are some rustic seats outside and camping facilities.
The good pub guide food review
Reliably good food includes sandwiches, seasonal soups, halloumi sticks with sweet chilli sauce, a pie of the day, smoked haddock, cod and salmon fish pie with samphire and peas, beef and mushroom stroganoff, goats cheese and onion tart with new potatoes, and puddings such as seasonal fruit eton mess and almond and pistachio tart with cardamom cream and roasted fig.
