The good pub guide review

This airy, rustic-style pub is open (and serves food) all day, so there are always plenty of customers popping in and out. The open-plan bar is furnished and decorated in a minimalist style with wooden and cushioned dining chairs and leather-topped stools around rustic tables on bare boards, button-back wall banquettes, prints on pale painted walls, a few suitcases on racks, house plants and industrial-style ceiling lamps. From a small bar counter lined with stools, friendly staff serve Youngs Original and two or three other ales on handpump, good wines by the glass and a growing collection of gins; background music and TV. There are a couple of tables outside on a side road.

The good pub guide food review

Enjoyable food, from weekend brunches to Sunday roasts, includes truffle mac 'n' cheese fritters, crispy bacon, gem and avocado salad, chicken, tarragon and leek pie with buttered greens and mash, roast cauliflower with Persian-spiced lentils, spinach and chickpeas, 8oz rump steak with garlic and parsley butter and chips, and puddings such as rhubarb and custard crumble pie and lemon tart with crème fraîche.
