The good pub guide review

With its hearty food, good choice of drinks and numerous events throughout the year, this is an enjoyable place that our readers return to on a regular basis. The bar has long cushioned wall seats and pale leather dining chairs around tables on rugs or wooden floorboards, and a modern bar counter where attentive staff serve quickly changing ales such as St Austell Tribute and Proper Job on handpump, a decent choice of wines by the glass and around 15 gins; background music. The snug area has more long wall seats with brown leather armchairs, a couple of cushioned pews and a woodburning stove in an old brick fireplace. The elegant, partly carpeted dining room contains a real mix of antique-style dining chairs and tables. Ther are benches and tables among flowering pots on the back terrace and in the spacious, sunny garden.

The good pub guide food review

Well executed food includes sandwiches, braised pig cheeks with mustard, cider sauce and parsnip crisp on sourdough, stuffed flat mushroom gratin and crusty bread, aubergine parmigiano with salad and fries, burger with toppings, slaw and fries, cumberland sausage and mash, Catalan fish stew, crab linguine, and puddings such as cheesecake of the week and lemon posset with poppy seed shortbread.
