Bustling local with friendly licensees, chatty locals and well regarded food and drink
The good pub guide review
This small terraced pub in a quiet residential area offers a genuine welcome to visitors. The friendly, long-serving licensees know what they doing ' they've been here for over 30 years. The traditional bar, with plenty of chatty regulars, has built-in cushioned stall seats and plush cushioned stools around pubby tables, some horse tack, local photographs and china jugs, a log fire and an easy-going atmosphere. There's Bass, Dartmoor Jail Ale, Exeter Avocet and Sharps Doom Bar on handpump, local cider and eight wines by the glass. You can sit in the covered courtyard, which might be candlelit in warm weather.
The good pub guide food review
Fair value food includes sandwiches, deep-fried whitebait with tartare sauce, scallops with crispy bacon, ham and eggs, beef stroganoff, sausage in a basket, minted lamb shank, popular speciality charcoal steaks (sirloin rump and fillet), and puddings.
