Civilised dining pub with generous helpings of well liked food and a fine array of drinks served by attentive staff
The good pub guide review
There's plenty of space at this well run pub, both inside and out, from the extensive garden and large car park to the spacious and spreading interiors (but with cosy corners too). The internconnected rooms (one with a broad arched ceiling) have plenty of tables of varying shapes and sizes and a mix of comfortable chairs on parquet, polished boards or attractive floor tiles. Numerous prints and photographs line the walls, there are three open fires and big windows and careful lighting contributes to the relaxed atmosphere; board games. Bar stools line the long bar counter where helpful, polite staff keep some 20 wines by the glass, 40 rums, about 130 gins, 60 malt whiskies, two farm ciders and St Austell Brunning & Price Traditional, Hop & Stagger Shropshire Pale, Woods Shropshire Lad and three quickly changing guests from the likes of Stonehouse, Titanic and Wye Valley on handpump. There's a private dining room upstairs and good disabled access. In warm weather, the garden is quite lovely, with seating on a sunny terrace, picnic-sets tucked into the shade of mature trees and extensive views across quiet country fields; play tractor and swings for children.
