Neatly kept pub with attractive furnishings, open fires, five real ales and popular food; bedrooms

The good pub guide review

Set in one of the most beautiful corners of the Yorkshire Dales, this friendly pub offers a warm welcome, hearty food and good ales and other drinks. The bars have beams and white-painted joists in low ceilings, some exposed stone walls, log fires (one in a beautifully carved heavy wooden fireplace), attractive built-in cushioned wall benches and stools around a mix of copper-topped tables, little wall lamps and quite a few prints on the pale walls. There's a cosy snug. A Robinson's ale, John Smiths Bitter, Tetleys Best and two guests on handpump, 13 wines by the glass, a good range of gins and malt whiskies served by efficient staff; background music, darts and ring the bull. The terrace, looking across the road to the duck pond, has teak benches and tables under green parasols, and the hanging baskets are most attractive. The five well equipped bedrooms are in a converted barn behind the pub. There's plenty of good walking and cycling nearby.
