The good pub guide review

This lovely inn with smart bedrooms sits in the pretty hamlet of Woolley Moor on the outskirts of Ashover, with Ogston Reservoir just a couple of minutes' drive away. The pub is neat and uncluttered, and the bar, snug and dining room have wooden dining chairs and tables, stools and leather sofas on flagstoned or wooden floors, a woodburning stove (in the bar), an open fire (in the dining room) and boldly patterned curtains and blinds. Peak Bakewell Best Bitter and Chatsworth Gold and a guest such as Castle Rock Harvest Pale or Dancing Duck Ay Up on handpump, 17 gins and 13 wines by the glass. In the front garden you'll find picnic-sets under parasols on gravel, and boules. Each of the contemporary, well equipped bedroom suites has a private balcony and floor-to-ceiling windows that give splendid views over the Amber Valley.

The good pub guide food review

Extremely good food includes crab cake with lemon and basil beurre blanc, home-cured bacon and cauliflower purée, sesame chicken with Asian slaw, bean cassoulet with baba ganoush and flatbread, chicken and tarragon pie with new potatoes and creamed leeks, salmon with noodles and ginger and coriander dressing, pan-fried hake in chorizo provençale sauce, and puddings such as white chocolate pannacotta with raspberry compote and meringue with caramelised lemon curd and lemon ice-cream.
