The good pub guide review
An inviting and amiable pub in the heart of down-from-London walking territory: both the A30 and M3 are nearby. It does, however, also enjoy a faithful local following, so lunchtimes here can be busy. It's a chatty pub with a friendly atmosphere and the various comfortable rooms ramble around the central servery, providing plenty of space for all. The wallpaper, lighting and patterned carpet, plus high-backed stools and bar tables on the right at the back, give an easy-going and homely feel ' as does the way the layout provides several smallish distinct areas. Ringwood Fortyniner and Razorback and Wychwood Hobgoblin on handpump, 14 wines by the glass plus prosecco and plenty of neatly dressed staff; daily papers, background music and books (often cookbooks) on shelves. A sizeable terrace has sturdy tables and chairs, including some in a heated covered area.
The good pub guide food review
Tasty food includes baps and wraps, mac 'n' cheese balls, halloumi matchsticks with chilli sauce, cheesy nachos, barbecue ribs, sirloin steak with corn on the cob and rosemary fries, a wide range of Hogget burgers (including beef, halloumi with roasted peppers and hummus, vegan with dairy-free cheese and mayo), and puddings such as Malteser cheesecake, boozy chocolate torte and ice-creams.
