The good pub guide review
A typical Hampshire red-brick cottage that is now a reliable Brunning & Price pub. The small beamed rooms with open doorways and standing timbers have a satisfying rustic atmosphere, and rugs on nice old parquet floors and flagstones lend an antique vibe; the built-in cushioned wall settles and upholstered banquettes are designed for comfort. There are old-style dining chairs and stools around polished tables (each set with flowers and a candle) plus open fires and a woodburning stove, mirrors, prints and old photographs on the walls and glass bottles and house plants on the windowsills. Friendly, helpful and efficient staff serve Brunning & Price Traditional Bitter plus guests from breweries such as West Berkshire, Windsor & Eton and XT on handpump, 21 wines by the glass, around 45 gins and 30 whiskies; background music. The company's trademark play tractor sends out a 'families welcome' message, as do the wooden chairs and tables under green parasols and picnic-sets on grass.
