The good pub guide review
This attractive, tranquil 17th-c pub is tucked away in an idyllic hamlet ' it's the ideal escape from the traffic-laden M25. The long, stepped bar has particularly well kept Fullers ESB, London Pride and Seafarers on handpump and several wines by the glass. There are quite a few antique dressers (several filled with plates), a number of comfortably cushioned settles, a fox's mask, some antlers, a fine old clock with a lovely chime, daily papers and (on the right as you enter) a big fireplace. In the evening, neatly placed candles cast glimmering light over darkly varnished tables, all sporting fresh flowers. The fenced-off back garden (the only place where dogs are allowed) has plenty of sturdy picnic-sets on a lawn surrounded by handsome trees.
The good pub guide food review
Rewarding food includes sandwiches and platters, halloumi bites with sweet dipping sauce, smoked salmon with lemon crème fraîche, lamb koftas with tzatziki, chicken breast or beef burger with toppings, coleslaw and chips, cumberland sausages with mashed potatoes and gravy, smoked haddock fishcakes with roasted vine tomatoes, chilli con carne, and puddings such as cherry and almond tartlet and cinnamon-dusted Belgian waffle with maple syrup.
