A roaring log fire, appealing food and a genuinely warm welcome conjure up a perfect country pub and our Top Ten this year are the White Horse in Hedgerley and Crown at Little Missenden (both in Buckinghamshire), Pheasant in Burwardsley (Cheshire), Rugglestone in Widecombe (Devon), Brace of Pheasants in Plush (Dorset), Royal Oak in Fritham (Hampshire), Hatchet at Lower Chute and Malet Arms in Newton Tony (both Wiltshire), Fleece at Bretforton (Worcestershire) and Harp in Old Radnor (Wales).
