Whether you’re hoping to enjoy a socially distant drink outside, or just want to enjoy the beautiful summer weather, these pubs with gardens are perfectly set up for enjoying your pint outdoors.
King’s Head, Laxfield
Our unspoilt pub of 2020, the King’s Head in Laxfield has a neatly kept garden with colourful herbaceous borders. You can now order by text from the garden and have your drinks delivered to your table.
Barley Mow, Derbyshire
Well kept ales, french wines and farm cider too at this handsome Jacobean pub. A good-sized garden, a couple of benches at the front and a shop in what used to be the stable.
Flying Childers, Derbyshire
As well as seats out in front, there are picnic-sets in the well tended back garden. The surrounding walks are marvellous and both walkers and their dogs are warmly welcomed; they keep doggie treats behind the bar.
Happily for all of us, this little country gem remains as unspoilt as ever. The big garden has seats on paved areas surrounded by cottage garden flowers and fruit trees.
Three Horseshoes, Norfolk
You’ll find plenty of charm in the unspoilt bar rooms of this old-fashioned pub. There’s a courtyard garden with flower tubs, a terrace with metal chairs and tables and lawns with picnic-sets.
As well as garden tables at the front, there are more seats on the back lawn with hill views; the Mendip morris men visit in summer and some of the best walking on the Mendips is nearby. There isn’t a pub sign outside, but no one seems to have a problem finding the place.
White Horse, Buckinghamshire
You’d never believe that this convivial country gem was so close to suburbia as it feels a world away. A canopied extension leads out to the garden where there are tables, lots of hanging baskets and occasional barbecues; a few tables in front of the building overlook the quiet road; disabled access. Good walks nearby and the pub is handy for the Church Wood RSPB reserve.
