White Cross, Richmond, Greater London, TW9 1TH – The Good Pub Guide

Lucky Dip

Very pleasant garden with terrific Thames views, seats on paved area, outside bar and boats to Kingston and Hampton Court; two chatty main rooms with hotel feel (which it was), local prints and photographs, three log fires (one unusually below a window), Wells & Youngs and guests from old-fashioned island servery, a dozen wines by the glass, decent bar food all day, bright and airy upstairs room (children welcome here till 6pm) with pretty cast-iron balcony for splendid river view, good mix of customers; piped music, TV; dogs welcome

Yesterday my two friends and I visited this lovely waterside pub on the Thames. It is a Charles Wells/Youngs pub so we had the Youngs Special, which was excellent. To eat we all had the fish and chips and although we had to wait some time (despite it not being that busy) it was well worth it. The staff were all very friendly and the views of the Thames are superb. Well worth a visit if you are in Richmond and they serve food all day.

Regards, Ross Balaam.

After visiting nearby Ham house ( well worth a visit) we walked up the river to this pub on the river. I am sure at a weekend and on a nice day it is very busy. It certainly is in a nice spot. I had my usual sausage baguette which came with fried onions. The only thing to say is both were already cooked an 'on show' at the Deli bar. So they were not hot but barely warm. We ordered a side of chips which came as those really think ones that are a bit big IMHO. A very small side salad 1/2 cherry tomato and a small pice of limp lettuce. I think for London this is a good lucky dip entry I am not sure how good the mains are but I think I'd recommend it with a reservation or two.

Really like this pub as it is in a great riverside location, good range of beers, very nice and cosy inside and also has an outside bar.

Downside is the cramped rectangular bar inside, when it gets busy its hard to find room to stand or get served.

Good atmosphere, lively mixed crowd of people and a great place on a night out.
