What they say
The Keepers Arms, nestled above the river Rother at Trotton Bridge, is a warmly welcoming 17th century country pub. Here one may enjoy well kept real ales, simple pub food, elegant candlelit dinners or a celebration for up to 50.

Head chef is Matt Appleton who is dedicated, experienced, talented and classically trained. He is a perfectionist and this shows in all that he and his team does.

Locally brewed cask conditioned ales from Dark Star, Ballards, Ringwood and King's include Hophead, Ballards Best, Horsham Best and 49'er as well as a wide range of interesting soft drinks and a comprehensive wine list.

Good Pub Guide Recommended

Low ceilings, comfortable furnishings on polished wooden boards, open fires, real ales, contemporary food, and seats on sunny terrace

This pretty tile-hung cottage has tables and seats on its south-facing terrace. The beamed L-shaped bar has timbered walls and some standing timbers, comfortable sofas and winged-back old leather armchairs around the big log fire, and simple rustic tables on the oak flooring. Elsewhere, there are a couple of unusual adult high chairs at an oak refectory table, two huge Georgian leather high-backed chairs around another table and, in the dining room, elegant oak tables, comfortable dining chairs and a woodburning stove; there's another cosy little dining room with bench seating around all four walls and a large central table. Ballards Best, Dark Star Hophead, and Ringwood Fortyniner on handpump, and several wines from a comprehensive list. More reports please.

Good Pub Guide Food

There's a choice of some pubby bar food such as ciabattas, plougham's, cod in beer batter, sirloin steak, bass lunchtime soup, as well as a short à la carte menu (not cheap) offering the likes of carpaccio of yellow-fin tuna or slow-roasted pork belly with seared scallops.

Reader Comments

You may hear people say 'the food is so expensive' but one thing is certain. Those people haven't eaten there! The food once tasted is well worth the money and even the simplest of food on the menu such as wild mushroom lasagne is absoloutly sublime. This great tasting food coupled with friendly service and great beers makes this a worthwile dinning destination.
